Prosper Lecourtier was born in Gremilly in 1855, dying in Paris in 1924. He studied under two great masters, Frémiet and Coutan. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1879 to 1902, winning various medals and a bronze at the Exposition Universelle in 1900. All his models of animals are sensitive and lifelike.
