Jacques Bouyssou was born in 1926 in La Rivière-St-Sauveur (Calvados), dying in 1979. He was a painter of waterscapes, seascapes and flowers. He studied under Othon-Friesz at the Académie de la Grande-Chaumière in Paris. He was influenced by Othon-Friesz’s late period following his Fauvism and return to the use of form. He was also influenced by Boudin, Marquet and other artists, who specialised in sky and water painting. In 1972 he was appointed official painter to the navy for 1973.
He exhibited in group exhibitions and Salons including the Salon d’Automne, and the Salon des Peintres Témoins de leurs Temps (Painters as Witnesses of their Time), as well as numerous solo exhibitions from 1955 onwards in Paris and other towns.
