Victorian mahogany dumbwaiter

USD 0.00

A mid 19th century mahogany ‘lazy susan’ c1840. The top rotates upon the column and was most probably used for sauces and condiments. I’m not quite sure what the Victorians would have called this, probably a dumbwaiter….but regardless, as useful then as it is now! The first usage of the term Lazy Susan occurs in a Vanity Fair magazine of 1917 and the story goes that Thomas Jefferson invented the device for his daughter Susan. It measures: 59CM X 17.5CM
